Winter 2008
The situation: corner lot, a large property full of sod, open and exposed to the public. This client wanted to escape from the traditional sod-saturated yard and have a space created around privacy with a retreat atmosphere. With the proper plant choices and placement, outdoor rooms and circulation patterns were created for strolling or pausing throughout the site.
This landscape was brought to life with a method called “sheet mulching” to help create a rich and fluffy soil. This once massive monoculture of lawn is now an expression of diversity supported with a healthy soil.
