Fall 2019
Living at the bottom of a hill makes for a tough exit when you have to back out. This client needed a space created to allow for a three-point turn with her car. And because the existing asphalt drive held such a prominent view from inside the home, the industrial black asphalt was replaced with the more aesthetic and more calming material of permiable pavers.
Now, the once eyesore focal point is an appealling asset drawing the viewer’s eye through the landscape. A turn spot was carved out of the slope and retained with large landscape rock planted in Sedum (Sedum mexicanum) for a dramatic affect.
Sweeping the pavers off the drive down the slope to the front door ties in a little nook perfect for an entry sitting garden packed with natives and Florida-friendlies to attract pollinators, butterflies and birds.
To bring on the excitement, Bluemist (host for monarch), Ginger (hummingbird), Salvia (butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators), Sedum (nectar for eastern tiger swallowtail), and Firespike (butterflies and hummingbirds) were used here, just to name a few.
